November 2012 - Kenya

hakuna matata

Kenya - it is hard to imagine a more majestic and diverse place. While there were certainly some moments of unease and discomfort in a country with such transparent poverty and political disarray, journeys into the jungle and Masai Mara allowed for breathtaking scenery and the opportunity to connect with wildlife and nature; a pretty special place, especially for a bird-nerd like myself. Some moments and lessons I won't soon forget:

+ the amazing work being done by those at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and adopting an orphaned elephant named Balguda

+ getting mobbed by children when delivering a brand new soccer ball to a random village

+ drinking ice cold White Cap beer in the back of an open safari vehicle

+ capturing the "Big Five" with my camera lens

+ a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara

+ getting chased by a very "hungry hippo" while river boating
