ABOUT MATT

I am a
business owner... traveller... shutterbug... foodie... coach... fitness junkie... wanderer... vancouverite...

For as long as I can remember, I've been most comfortable wearing a variety of hats - in the most figurative of senses. I mean, literally as well, likely a result of my many years playing and coaching baseball. But I'm happiest in a life that demands juggling an array of activities and priorities (and prioritizing "jugglings"), a full schedule, and an onslaught of curveballs (cue the baseball metaphors).

Credentials and work experience aside (you can view that here), my greatest strengths come in the intangible form, and are derived from a passion for helping others reach their goals. In my professional career, thats meant helping clientele purchase their first home and educating them on saving for retirement or their childrens education; coaching work colleagues and direct reports to their professional and personal endeavours; and creating powerful stories through video. Whatever the avenue, the greatest reward in my work has been through others success. To my reporting managers, I've been recognized as a high integrity leader, motivator, creative problem-solver and an adapter - someone with grit - and I thrive on these skills in everything I do in life.

On a more personal note, it has meant participating in and giving back to the community in which I live. At the forefront has been coaching within the North Shores' premier baseball program, the North Shore Twins. To me, baseball has always been about more than the sport; it is an opportunity to develop leaders, team players, and young men, and I've been lucky to work with and elevate teenagers aged 16 and under, and even see a few go on to get drafted by big league teams. Outside of the Twins program, I've taken advantage of a plethora of volunteer opportunities, most fondly B.C. Challenger Baseball - reach out if you have an opportunity for me to be a part of!

the extras...

If it's not obvious yet, sport and travel play major roles in my daily life. I am a strong believer in the mantra "sweat once a day", and am keen on exploring different ways to get my sudoriferous' pumping (look it up). While still active in many a team sport, I'm beginning to explore more independent activties to challenge myself differently, and am eager to finally not get injured prior to a sprint triathlon (0-3 registrations... oh yeah - I'm injury prone). Check out my travels and photos.

To the extent that work, coaching and sport keep me busy, I make time for the social - and quite honestly, drinks and food are important here. That drink can be drip coffee, a glass of red, or a scotch (just one ice cube please) - what matters is the people and the environment. If you're interested in sharing in any of the above over some stories, or the other way around, I'm always interested in meeting new people.
